Buko Technologies builds software that takes something genuinely annoying and makes it feel easy. Our name comes from the coconut — tough shell, soft centre, not much fuss. That is roughly the idea behind everything we make.
Winnow came out of doing the job. We work in product security for connected machines that go into other people’s buildings, which means we answer these questionnaires ourselves — by hand, with a deal waiting, over and over.
We got tired of explaining the same long list every time. So we built the thing we wanted.
Products that used to just sit there now have a connection, a service behind them and a way to update themselves. Every one of those is something a customer is entitled to ask about — and a reason to hold up the contract until you answer.
Enough people have been let down by a supplier that “we take security seriously” no longer gets anybody through procurement. Customers want to see the workings now, and they are right to.
Rules are arriving that expect anyone selling a connected product to know what is inside it and deal with faults properly. Before long this stops being one demanding customer and becomes a condition of selling at all.
That is the whole brief. We look for places where the distance between what a company can claim and what it can actually prove has grown too wide, and we close it — without turning it into a project that needs its own department.
Simplifying the world, one boring-but-essential thing at a time.
